Leading off this week is a photo from the ACU Women's Basketball game from Saturday, January 21. I am not so sure that I really like this shot, but what I do like about it is that I shot it with a wide angle lens from under the net. Usually I shoot Basketball with a telephoto lens (anywhere between 100mm and 200mm) but I decided to change things up a bit for a while Saturday and used my 28mm lens to get this shot. I have been feeling that my sports photos from the past few events I have been at have become stale and boring. I don't want to constantly be shooting the same peak action shots over and over. Also, I may stop using my motor drive so much, I think that I used to get better shots when I had only one chance to get what I wanted. My sense of timing was better. The next Picture is from the men's game and was also shot with a 28mm lens:

Aside from sports action I also had a chance to shoot for the local paper here on Monday, the Abilene Reporter News. Former State Rep. Charlie Stenholm was being honored by the local Boy Scouts Council. I was excited to get the call, as this was my first assignment for the paper. I hope that maybe some more will come my way. The first photo is the one they ran, it is really a "formula" or "safety" shot. It's not particulary interesting, but it is a photo of the main subject of a story. The next is one that I like a little more, with the former Representative shaking the hand of one of the scouts. This photo tells more about Stenholm's relationship with the Scouts, but lacks visual punch.

Since the requirements for this journal are pretty open, from time to time I might add a shot or two of my little daughter Grace Anne. Here is one of her looking at me after we have just had a fight over the remote control:
